Branka Banić is an associate attorney with The Law Office of Rajeh A. Saadeh, L.L.C. She is a graduate of Rutgers University and Seton Hall University School of Law. She has experience litigating complex, high income and net worth cases, including those involving interstate and international discovery, business valuations, and arbitrations. Before commencing her work as a matrimonial attorney, Branka gained invaluable experience through her work in immigration and general litigation law.

While attending Seton Hall Law School, Branka worked as a student attorney in the Immigrants’ Rights and International Human Rights Clinic where she represented clients in proceedings with the Department of Justice. This experience as a student attorney allowed Branka an early opportunity to work directly with clients who were enduring extremely sensitive and legal challenging situations. Branka immediately understood effective legal representation to be such when an attorney is able to balance the inevitable personal effects resulting from the legal dispute in a conscientious and flexible manner while simultaneously pursuing a client’s rights in an aggressive manner. She was thus effectively able to represent several individuals facing multifaceted legal issues without losing sight of the sensitive effects these issues implicated for her clients. Branka subsequently interned with the Department of Justice where she further expanded her research, writing, and analytical skills. During her Seton Hall Law tenure, Branka also worked for the City of Elizabeth’s corporate counsel where she assisted several attorneys in their representation of the city in contract, tax, and numerous municipal matters.

After graduating from Seton Hall, Branka clerked for the Honorable Peter J. Tober, J.S.C., in Somerset County. There, she discovered her passion for family law through her work on complex matrimonial matters, which often fell beyond the scope of routine disputes. Branka worked on issues involving high-net worth divorces, support, division of pensions, custody, parenting time, and she handled frequent emergent applications in both the FD and FM dockets. Branka aided Judge Tober with trial issues and she handled the fluctuating day-to-day operations of chambers. Her experience with Judge Tober fine-tuned her ability to balance a demanding workload while simultaneously maintaining a high quality work product. Working for the principal matrimonial judge in Somerset County necessitated that Branka be reliable, efficient, and thorough. Her effectiveness in managing an oftentimes-unyielding workload allowed her to work with Judge Tober beyond motions and the unique opportunity to observe trial proceedings. Branka found court observation particularly gratifying as it granted her an insight into a judge’s perspective—namely, what judges found to be effective litigation strategies and what an attorney should strive to avoid.

Branka also mediated numerous family and civil matters to a successful resolution and she assisted several additional judges with ancillary family law issues. Significantly, Branka’s clerkship and her mediation experience further developed her ability to cooperate with a range of clients and attorneys, particularly those in distress. Her capacity to remain calm under pressure and in chaotic situations is critical in family law litigations. She takes pride in meticulous preparation and she embraces challenges in an effort to ease the pressures of those depending on her. Branka finds her work in family law fulfilling as it enables her to assist individuals through some of the most trying times of their lives—an effort that demands a combination of aptitudes beyond legal research and those which may otherwise be learned in an academic setting. She finds long-term planning and a proactive approach to be an essential part of a successful litigation. The issues implicated in custody and financial disputes carry long-term consequences, which are best anticipated and addressed at the outset to avoid unnecessary stress on all parties involved.

Branka’s diverse work experiences are a testament to her versatility and her ability to adjust successfully to any situation. Her work experiences with federal judges, state judges, and numerous supervisory attorneys have ensured that she is able to handle any issue with zeal and tenacity. Branka is a member of the New Jersey Bar and Somerset County Bar Association. She also speaks Serbo-Croatian, Spanish, and some German.
