A fundamental point to note about New Jersey divorce is that some matters can very much be left to the discretion of soon-to-be exes and/or a judge (alimony, for example, which can be negotiated and additionally adjusted by the court).
Having said that, though, it is just as clear that others are far more circumscribed and determined via an alternative route.
Like child support, for example, which we spotlight on our family law website at The Law Office of Rajeh A. Saadeh in a contrastive way to spousal support. We stress therein that, “New Jersey child support laws provide fairly straightforward child support guidelines” based upon factors such as parental incomes, the number of affected children, parenting time and health care considerations.
Notwithstanding that, though (and here is that given caveat so often present with legal matters), a proven divorce attorney’s studied input is often required to petition for adjusted support levels based on unusual or extenuating factors.
Here is the lead-in to the above-cited divorce case in today’s blog heading. That decoupling pertains to Brangelina.
You’ve heard of that power couple, of course, and likely their progressively rancorous divorce proceedings. Brad Pitt has in fact been making child support payments to Angelina Jolie to provide for the couple’s six children, but she says that they are too low to be “meaningful.” She recently petitioned the judge overseeing their case for an upward adjustment.
We note on our site that such a request – a departure from the norm dictated by statutory factors and an explicit support calculator – is not altogether uncommon, especially when ultra-high incomes and other unusual factors are involved.
Of course, such factors are on prominent display in the Brangelina decoupling. They include travel costs between various home,s private tutors, security protections and a host of other concerns.
Many of our divorcing readers likely don’t share some of the same concerns that feature in the Brangelina split. However, and at the core, celebrity divorce details are often not that fundamentally different from other decouplings.
What Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are centrally focused on are financial issues relating to their children’s needs. That is similarly true for high numbers of divorcing parties in New Jersey and nationally.
