Alex B. Dowland helps individuals in complex, high stakes divorce, matrimonial, and family law matters and criminal defense cases throughout New Jersey. He also has experience in domestic violence matters, landlord-tenant eviction cases, habeas matters, and appeals.
Prior to joining the firm, Alex was an attorney for Legal Services of Northwest Jersey and a public defender in Colorado, which helped him hone his legal skills helping indigent individuals avoid eviction and mitigate criminal prosecution.
Alex was the lead volunteer for Indiana University Maurer School of Law’s Federal Habeas Project, which enabled him to argue in front of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit in a habeas case where the petitioner was wrongfully convicted of murder and, after 11 years of incarceration, released from prison.
Alex was also the co-president of Indiana Law's LGBTQ+ Pro Bono Project, which served Indiana's LGBTQ+ population in name change matters, gender marker changes, and overall legal advocacy. He also served as lead research director of the Maurer Inmate Legal Assistance Project, a pro bono program that provided legal research to federal prisoners in U.S. Penitentiary Terre Haute.
Alex is licensed to practice law in New Jersey and Colorado.
